Ethnocentric America: Getting over ourselves

Putin’s comments regarding our conduct in the international community are absolutely correct. We are not, nor can we afford to consider ourselves “Special” and deserving of special considerations and forgiveness from the world community. We are not in the vanguard of change and progress, and haven’t been for many years now. We are slowly, painfully, and on many flanks, decaying.

We lie to ourselves about Employment: One-half of the eligible workforce have dropped out, per our own Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). We’ve written about this many times in the past citing BLS statistics and the dismal picture they paint, yet few of us know, care, or understand the significance of this fact.

Plainly, one-half of the those eligible to work do not, leaving the one-half who do responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of the country. Official BLS reported Unemployment is actually about 50%, but we choose to swallow the plainly manipulated statistic. Then how have we continued to exist, you might ask?

Printing money and burying ourselves further in debt: Our National Debt is $17 trillion, and growing. Our government has issued press releases that say, “the Budget Deficit is shrinking” which really means, “We are borrowing less, but still borrowing much...too much.” All on the backs of future generations, if there are future generations of Americans.

We continue to consume 25% of the world’s resources while representing only 5% of the population. To meet our extravagant energy needs we have begun cracking open the earth below our homes extracting shale encapsulated Oil simultaneously destroying the earth and the property values of those who live anywhere near a Fracking facility. We wage war, or attempt to do so as in Syria, to control and waste more resources, devastating American and foreign lives in the act.

41% of Americans are so stupid they still believe that Saddam Hussein had something to do with 9/11 notwithstanding everything to the contrary. They have no idea how Lukoil played into the scenario, and know nothing about what happened to the West Qurna and Majnoon Oil Fields in Iraq following our illegal and criminal incursion into that country in 2003.

Few Americans know or care that in the last 20 years a vast amount of wealth has shifted upward. At no time in American history, except in 1927 - a significant date which means nothing to most - has 1% of our population reaped more than one-quarter of annual income while the level of Poverty continues to spiral upward.

Frankly, we are a vast sea of the mentally retarded being exploited and marginally protected - so long as we continue to fulfill our usefulness as consumers - by a cartel of the wealthy.

We have been on the wrong track for many years now led by a cinch around our collective testicles. Alcoholics striving for recovery always say that one cannot begin to climb back upward until one hits rock bottom. Unfortunately, those who have brought us to this precipice will not be falling with us.

Here is some of what Putin had to say, “We are not protecting the Syrian government, but international law. We need to use the United Nations Security Council and believe that preserving law and order in today’s complex and turbulent world is one of the few ways to keep international relations from sliding into chaos.

“The law is still the law, and we must follow it whether we like it or not. Under current international law, force is permitted only in self-defense or by the decision of the Security Council. Anything else is unacceptable under the United Nations Charter and would constitute an act of aggression.”

Think about it.
