The Cowboy, the Lesbian, and Bernie Sanders

Joseph Warren, Editor

An immortal joke about a cowboy who happens to sit next to a pretty Lipstick lesbian at a bar and strikes up a conversation with her: The discourse turns to sexual appetite. The Lesbian offers her opinion that, more than anything, she loves to eat...she describes in detail her enthusiasm, and the satisfaction she derives from this intimate act, sharing a deep physical love with another woman through oral contact. She asks the cowboy, “So, given the way you’re dressed I’d guess you’re a cowboy. Is that right?”

The cowboy responds, “Well, I thought I was, but now I’m pretty sure I’m a Lesbian.”

Bernie Sanders is a Socialist. I never thought of myself as a Socialist until reading and understanding his opinion - No, more than that: his unequivocal refusal to endorse another trade deal like the one cooking with the Pacific Rim (emphatically sponsored by Obama, Democrats, and most Republicans) destined to remove more Manufacturing jobs away from the US, resulting in a further erosion of meaningful and worthwhile employment; the category of employment that supports service and government payrolls and without which we are destined to remain mired in a morass of false recovery in Jobs, Housing, and Employment overall.

Here’s what Sanders said about the Trans-Pacific Partnership: “Look at whose side multinational corporations are on this. How do the drug companies feel about this? How does Wall Street feel about it? All of the multinationals believe this is a great agreement, for good reasons. They're going to make a whole lot of money out of that...”

We would add: At the further expense of American jobs. Plainly, like all “Trade Deals” before it, the Trans-Pacific Partnership is an economic killer. It is the coup de grâce to the head of an economy riding at the precipice of death - ours. Read, What’s Really Wrong with the US Economy and understand that we cannot emerge from our present state of financial collapse without restoring Manufacturing employment.

From no other candidate vying for our nation’s top office have I heard such a clear and articulate position: Any other candidate - any other party - is bought and paid-for.

I have never been a Socialist or a Lesbian, but like the cowboy whose epiphany awakens him to a new reality - a new raison d’etre - I’m beginning to think that maybe I am...both. I hope my wife doesn’t mind.
