Why Does the Associated Press Have Such a Hard Time With the Truth?

Lara Jakes, AP writer claims, “President Barack Obama is poised to become the first U.S. leader in three decades to attack a foreign nation without mustering broad international support or acting in direct defense of Americans.”

That is a misrepresentation of overwhelming facts to the contrary. In March 2003, George Bush ordered the invasion of Iraq resulting in the deaths of nearly five thousand American men and women,  hundreds of thousands of Iraqi civilians - women and children - and in the destabilization of a country that today has been so reduced to sectarian violence that the body count dial spins like the odometer of an Indy race car.

Lara, apparently, doesn’t read much nor do much in the way of research. True, Saddam Hussein was a despot, but neither he nor the people of Iraq had anything to do with 9/11 so there was no defense of Americans associated with our actions.

The countries involved were primarily Saudi Arabia (15 of the 9/11 assailants), and four from the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, and Lebanon. Not one of the 9/11 Terrorists trained on Iraqi soil, and those who funded the Terrorist attack were primarily Saudi nationals. Recall that bin Laden was a Saudi, as well, and a millionaire stemming from his family’s construction business.

Our allies in this international crime against an innocent people (perhaps exclusive of Hussein) were those whose arms were bent and held in check until they gave up in resignation: Spain, Canada and the UK, most of whom fairly quickly withdrew from the war.

Shell, Exxon-Mobil, and the usual suspects stepped in immediately and vacuumed up the rights to the West Qurna and Majnoon Oil Fields in a rigged bidding process following the death of Hussein, and that was our ultimate and actual goal, wresting control from Russia and our other global oil competitors.

Only a terribly misinformed person, or someone who wished to further bend the facts to push her own agenda, would characterize our action in Iraq as well-founded in the face of the overwhelming evidence.

So, Obama is in good company if he attempts what ought to be the unthinkable. We - America - haven’t taken a “Giant (Humanitarian) step for mankind” in 60 years. To think otherwise marks one as insouciant and ignorant, but perhaps, that is the caliber of writer AP prefers for today’s readership.
